BP4_2010031_Web2.0Tool1_soundzabound

My students are working on an Earth Day project that includes writing a slogan for the environmental asset they would like to introduce to the community. According to Alexomanolaki, Loveday, and Kennett (2007) brain based learning research indicates that mnemonics set to music improves memory retention, so having my students set their slogan to music is the added challenge. Earth Day raps, rhymes, and songs have now been written so we were on the hunt for a source for copyright free beats and music.

Dr. Deason steered me towards a Web 2.0 tool called Soundzabound at www.soundzabound.com. It is a great resource. My students quickly figured out how to scroll through the beats and songs and have started practicing putting their lyrics to the music.

Check out the video to learn more about the site.

  2. Great idea of adding the screen capture and audio to your blog posts. It makes for a much more interesting blog than just images and words.

Soundzabound seems like a great tool but the price tag is quite hefty for teachers or school districts. I would bet there is a similar application out there that is free, though it may have some ads or banners on it as a trade off. Most students wouldn't notice the difference between the pay site and the free site.
